"Born to Be" was an activity and seminar led by conference director, Branden Figueroa. Throughout the week, students had the opportunity to pick up a piece of paper hung on walls in the building that best described them. The choices were born to fly, born to be wild, born to run, and born this way. During the seminar, Branden explained the “glows”, the positives, and the “grows”, the areas of improvement, for each choice. These types of people are all leaders, but in different ways. He compared them to different instruments in a band, and we discussed how groups work best when they have people from all categories. Once each group was explained, conferees were given the opportunity to switch their group. In the new groups, conferees talked about why their role is important in a group, what traits they need to improve to be a better leader, and how to help other people’s “grow” become a “glow”.
