During the Team Dynamics exercise, conferees were each given cards with different roles of characters in a group. They acted out the different personality traits which they were provided so that everyone could see the roles from a different point of view. The traits were often accentuated in the scenarios to extremes, giving a clearer picture. Some counselors distributed the personality cards so that they directly contrasted that conferee's own personality, further pushing them out of their comfort zone. The experience definitely contributed to positive growth among the conferees. Each conferee was able to not only act out roles that may have been unusual to them, but also see negative and positive characteristics in each role that they may have done themselves. Pointing out the weaknesses and strengths and then discussing ways to overcome them was very important in this activity. All conferees took part in a meaningful discussion to help become stronger leaders and keep everyone, even the more shy people, involved. Experiencing all of the roles - initiator, gate-keeper, aggressor, attention seeker, timid member, inactive member, information seeker, coordinator, overly enthusiastic member - showed the conferees how they relate to each role so that they would become more conscious of their actions. The conferees could then draw out the best qualities within themselves to shine.
